something GIRLIE!

morning, folks! hope all is well in your respective necks of the woods!

life is very busy here, and i am preparing for a visit from my biffy this Thursday night. he'll be here for 10 days, and we have a lot of evenings planned! as usual, at least one of those evenings will be filled with crafty goodness, and he'll be making cards with me. ;) besides that, we have bowling, ice cream, sculptures, weird stuff, drinking, Quizzo, fabby dining and movies on the agenda, so it will be a jam-packed visit!

got to playing around a bit last night (i was STARVING after hubbin and i went jogging, and i had to get my mind off FOOD as it was already after 8 pm), and decided to jump in on a challenge or two. :) this one's totally girlie, which hasn't REALLY been my usual style of late, so it was nice to venture into unfamiliar territory. here we go.

the image is a freebie from my guest stint at Quirky Crafts, and i used a similar technique on my first card using that image (though this one's a little more, um... polished, i think).

so i was inspired by the Girly Girls challenge at Totally Papercrafts, because it was somewhat outside of my most recent comfort zone, and i am also playing along at Stampin' for the Weekend - their theme is Wings and Things. and last, but not least, the Simon Says Stamp challenge this week is an Anything Goes theme, so i think i'll throw my name in the hat over there, too!

i seriously love ALL of our Odd Girls and their projects, but as i scrolled through the posts, this one just leapt out at me, and i HAD to lift it! (you'll see why...) :D

this is ALSO my very first time playing with COPICS! i was hangin' out Chez Adina not too long ago (but seriously, too long ago!) and she insisted i play, so i went for the skintones... here's a close-up of my handiwork (with which i'm mostly pleased, but Copics are NOT what i expected at all!):

i loved the layers and the buttons and the little criss-crossing ribbons, and she always seems to have so much fun mixing her papers. have you noticed that outlining with her Sharpies seems to be Sarah's trademark when she makes cards? she does that when she's scrapbookin', too! love it.

i've got some Mojo for Monday!

i know it's only SUNday, but i had an idea when i saw the Mojo Monday sketch, and i had to jump in before it closed off tonight! so i'm using up some bits and bobs, and this cute little ducky was sent to me by the lovely Crystal AGES ago, so it's time he got some luv. :)

i have this HUGE tin of chipboard stuff, and i never seem to pull it out when i'm playing with my crafties. so today, when i was looking for something to use where that gorgeous STAR is on the Mojo Monday sketch, the answer was simple! i love stars, but it didn't fit with the sentiment...

i had a FUN weekend, hanging out with the girls on Friday night and winning some $$$ in Atlantic City (HELLOOOOO, Netbook! there's no excuse now!), hung out with hubbin at my in-laws' house watching Hoarders (yeah, i know, but it's so gripping!), and recording some vocals this afternoon. going for a jog with hubbin soon, maybe some water ice later, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets tonight. we're trying to watch them in order before my Smudge-Paw comes to visit so we can see the last one in the theater with him. :)

something a little FLOWERY for you today at Charisma!

morning, crafty peeps! i hope you're all having a fabulous week! Thursday is an exciting day for me at work, and i'll fill you in on that later, but for now, a new challenge at CHARISMA! :)

i know loads of people already use flowers on their projects, but i'm hoping we'll see a little EXTRA for this round (otherwise it's not much of a challenge, right?).

think there are enough flowers on that paper? and the little peach rosettes were a must - i have been COLLECTING these little flowers from Recollections (at Michael's) - grabbing every pack with every colour as they go on clearance - yet i can never bring myself to use the darned things. it's like i'm scared to use them, in case i can never buy them again! well what's the point of COLLECTING paper crafting supplies? aren't they meant to be USED on paper crafting projects?! silly Leah...

i explained to Vee that i'm usually AWFUL when it comes to receiving and giving awards, but those strawberries just looked SOOOO scrummy, i had to jump on this one. :) sooooo, i am supposed to share 7 facts about myself and then share the award with 8 bloggy friends. here goes!

THE FACTS:

1 - chocolate covered tangerine Jelly Belly candies. they'll be the death of me. flippin' YUM.
2 - i've been a migraine sufferer since i was 11 years old.
3 - i have a less-than-healthy obsession for puzzle games, specifically Bejeweled on Facebook
4 - i do NOT own a SmartPhone and don't want one. i DO want a NetBook though.
5 - after the 3rd or 4th book in a series, i tend to lose interest.
6 - Pinhead is sexy as all get-out.
7 - i own one pair of shoes that i truly LOVE. the rest are just kind of MEH. they serve their purpose.

Guest Designing at Quirky Crafts - new challenge!

hey there, crafty friends! hope you're having a wonderful weekend, full of crafting and/or time with loved ones! i was fortunate enough to get an extra day off, so i'm enjoying a FOUR-DAY WEEKEND, which has been blissful so far!

i was ALSO fortunate enough to be invited to the Quirky Crafts challenge blog to be one of their guest designers, and this week they have a SUPER fun challenge going on (one that often intimidates me, but i found a way to make it work, ESPESH with the image i chose - thanks, Cazzy!).

the challenge?

NO PATTERNED PAPERS!

you can create your own patterns by stamping or painting or misting or what have you, OR you can go all out and MAKE your own papers, but nothing pre-made.

so here's my card - something of a labour of love. i have seen a braying technique that looks wonderful, but i thought i might be able to achieve something similar and more precise with my Prismacolor pencils, so i went to town...

she's pretty, isn't she? love this image!

i didn't want to cover up the background, so i opted for some tulle to accent the colours in the image. whatcha think? a fun image for stained glass effects, i'm sure, but LOADS of fun for gradients, too! CLICKETY CLICK to play along with the team at Quirky Crafts - good luck!

this one's not for any DT assignment, just 'cuz i was excited about combining these two images and found a few challenges with which i wanted to play along...

so i guess i'll cut right to the chase...

LOVE the way these two came together... okay, so the challenges that brought about this card?

first of all, The Craft Garden (where the lovely Carlyann, head of the Charisma challenge blog, is a DT member) - they want you to use a BIRD on your creation

Stampin' For The Weekend - their theme is "My Favourite Things"... i'm extremely fond of cute dresses with knee socks and polka dots (i'll take stripey OR dotty knee socks, please!), and i'm totally obsessed with the colour TURQUOISE lately (although ORANGE will always be my absolute fave, natch). so i have the dress, the socks, the dots and the turq. swoon!

and Allsorts chose "Free and Easy" as their theme this month... while i THINK they intended for it to mean an "anything goes" type of challenge, i kind of liked the image "Free and Easy" conjured up in my mind. so sitting on a swing, enjoying nature and the outdoors with birds singing... well that just seemed to make it work all the more for me. :)

and there we go! just a card, for a few challenges, and i hope you're all having a fantastic weekend! i think i'll go finish up some other stuff i'm working on, since hubbin is in our room working on music and i HOPE that means he'll be up late and not getting on my case about cards. the snuggling can wait!
