FEATURED ARTIST at SNR!

SCRAPBOOK NEWS AND REVIEW!

if you're a member, go to the home page for the magazine.
on the right side, you can scroll down to see the upcoming featured artists.

so, um... i'm being FEATURED on September 1st!

thought it was time to share my big announcement with my bloggy friends. :)
remember how i said i was working on The Great and Secret Project? yeah, well all will be revealed next week. WOO HOO!

Some Odd Girl is gettin' sketchy wit it!

WOOT! it's thursday and that's good news! SOME ODD GIRL has a brand new challenge, and we Odd Girls have offered up some inspiration for you!

today brings you style challenge #6 - this time, Kristy has opted for a sketch challenge! it's simple, but totally versatile and cute, and i LOVED playing with it!

i'd like to show you a little sneakie from the forthcoming TINIES line, available in late September... allow me to introduce Trike Tobie!

i LOVED colouring this little dude, and this sweet digi reminds me of that little red trike that just about EVERY kid owned when they were wee... complete with whitewall tires! ;)

do you love him? can't wait to get your hands on him? WELL.... there IS a little Tobie up for grabs HERE (he's free until the end of August!), but you'll have to wait a few more weeks for Trike Tobie. HOWEVER, you can win two free digis of your choice from SomeOddGirl.com if you're the winner of this challenge!

here's the sketch:

and you have until Wednesday, September 8th at midnight EST to play along with the Odd Girls! you don't have to use Some Odd Girl images, but if you do (and there's always a freebie for you to try!), you get an extra entry in the challenge!

CLICK HERE for the challenge, and to see what the rest of our Odd Girls have done with this one... you may even catch another sneak peek if you're paying attention!

i pulled some inspiration from the challenge over at ColourQ (poppy, mustard, aqua, grey and white)
and i'm SQUEEEEZING this one in for the "anything goes" challenge for Digi Day at Stamp Something - Some Odd Girl is also one of the SPONSORS for this challenge, so do play along over there and say hi to the fabby Erin! :)

DOLLIE-LICIOUS!

okay, maybe not THIS particular card, but i was going for simple again - stocking up on cards to bring on Wednesday night in hopes of making some money! i'd like to make enough to pay my registration fee for another craft fair in December, so fingers and toes are crossed they like my wares! ;)

anywho... new DOLLIES Color Challenge today! a combo with which i'd hoped i'd make something much more exciting. as it is, i was happy to have used up this old VELLUM sentiment - vellum is another of those things i simply cannot bring myself to enjoy (much like rubons)... in this case, i have not befriended the vellum, though rubons and i are getting quite chummy these days. :D

so, the combo:
NAVY BLUE, IVORY and MINT GREEN

my card:

also inspired by
Cupcake Crafts - blue and green
Paper Cutz - ANYTHING GOES!

seriously, just wanted to do something slightly different, stamped with white ink on the mint cardstock, cut my scallops freehand, anchored the vellum with brads, added a couple of flowers, and VOILA! i do, however, really like the font used for the sentiment. too bad it's not a STAMP or a RUBON!

anywho... if you play along with this particular Dollies challenge, you can win THIS:

from our FABBY August sponsor, Dolce Scrapbook!

join us! you have until SUNDAY, August 29th at midnight EST for this combo, and then there's one more chance to play for that there prize. :)

for those of you who check out SNR, i will have some news soon! if you haven't already signed up, what the heck are you waiting for? it's AMAZING. there are SO many great articles, gorgeous projects, lots of opportunities to win stuff and get noticed, fabby features, and heaps and heaps of inspiration! now is definitely the time to join! *wink*

Cosmo Cricket bright and happy, and Limelight classy

i cropped yesterday, and HOOOOO, boy, i got some cards made! WOOT!
i wrote out my list of challenges and drew the sketches i wanted to play with, and here's what i came up with...

this one, for SRM's sketch challenge, using the fabulous De-Lovely line from Cosmo Cricket (the yellow paper and that lone cute chipboard flower), a strip of the fabby paper sent to me for my BIRTHDAY from the delightful Karen (XO!) and some Heidi Swapp stickery goodness:

here's the sketch upon which my card was based:

the next card, for the current Limelight challenge - to use an all-occasion sentiment:

another angle, to show the metallic cardstock i used for the punched border and sentiment:

i LOVE the paper (DCWV) but totally struggle to use it! brought it with me to the crop with the intention of polishing it off, and it was just the touch i needed to give this card some class...

here's the Limelight sketch that inspired me:

isn't it a great sketch? i will SO be revisiting this one!

okay, must get back to work. i have a few more touches to put on some of these cards, and i must get cookin' on The Big Project... i'll be back tomorrow with a brand new Dollies Color Challenge!

Friday, August 20, 2010

i am SO close to tearing apart my purse just so i can grab the magnetic closure from it for my secret project. i picked up some magnets from A.C. Moore yesterday and there is NO WAY they have the strength to hold this thing together. it's coming down to the crunch, and i just need to complete this step before i can finally put everything together, and VOILA! hope it's worth all the fuss - i sure am having a lot of fun with it!

right. since i can't do that step now, i think i'll try to make another card for the wednesday night party. and off to a CROP tomorrow, so i'll be whippin' out the cards like it's goin' outta style! WOO HOO!

pearly, swirly, congratulatory sketchy card

trying to get as much crafting in during the steps of my big project, and i was able to get a card done for my commissioned batch (i have to cram in as many as possible between now and wednesday, so every few minutes helps!). i need to pick up some embroidery floss and a magnetic closure for The Big To-Do before i can move on to the next step (it's nearly finished!). Jo-Ann? A.C. Moore? i don't know who would have them but i don't have much time, so i hope i get lucky at my first stop!

made this little card and decided to bust out my first pack of Basic Grey (Sugared - still love it!) paper, and picked up these Making Memories glitter stickers for a BUCK! i love clearance. thank you to my ADINA-DOLLIE for the Prima pearly swirls - they were just what i needed for this one!

i was looking for challenges to inspire me (and light the proverbial fire under my butt to get a card MADE today, instead of just sorting through papers and complaining because i can't work on the OTHER thing!)... i found:
Card Patterns sketch #77
Craftalicious challenge #6 - pearls and swirls

here we go:

and the inside detail - i don't usually do much with the insides of my cards...

i really need to get myself comfortable with negative space cards... i tend to fill my negative space with lots of patterns and sometimes i know that Less Is More!

here's the sketch:

more stuff to share... noo nee noo....

so, life can be full of ups and downs, ya know? there's so much going on with me right now, some bad, and a bunch of good. let me start by saying that i got the call back and i go in Friday morning to meet with the trainer for this fabby job! i was SO excited when the woman called and she seemed just as excited that i was so interested! i'm HOPING that this final step is when they'll be scheduling my training and making me an offer and setting up my drug test... it will be the PERFECT ending to a chaotic week! thank you ALL for the well-wishes - it's nice to know you're all rooting for me from your faraway sidelines! ;D

hubbin and i played at the open mic last night - at the venue where our big gig is tomorrow night. it went WONDERFULLY, and i think the show's going to be a LOT of fun! we're taking somewhat of a hiatus to work on writing and recording new music, and expanding our list of cover songs, so hopefully we'll go out with a bang!

Miss O had bloodwork done yesterday, which came back negative; her vitals all seem to be working properly, so we'll be going ahead with an echocardiogram at the end of the month. the cardiologist will be checking her heart and lungs to see if any other masses or concerns pop up, and if he thinks she can handle another surgery (she had a cyst and mammary gland removed and was spayed last september), then we'll take her in about a week later. my poor Miss. she's such a sweet little old lady, and i hate to put her through this. i have already decided against any kind of chemo or radiation, should the biopsy come back malignant. i just don't want to put her through something like that, especially when she seems fine otherwise. just remove the cysts, thank you. the vet did tell me that most pet owners wouldn't have detected the two tiny ones i found - i take that to mean that i know my little girl and i'm a good mom for paying attention to the important stuff.

i've been labouring over a BIG project and will tell you more about it VERY soon! playing with some new ideas, new techniques, and new products, and i'm falling more and more in love with paper crafting in all its many aspects. this thing i'm working on now is going to be fun AND functional - i just hope i can find the parts i need to wrap it up so i can assemble and call it a day!

and The Son had his first driving lesson this morning. i snapped a bunch of pics like a good (scrappy) mom, and then, miraculously, i went back to sleep. :) yes, i was a nervous wreck, but the fatigue triumphed!

okay, so a card ('cuz i'm still working on these commissioned cards for next wednesday, and i DID manage to squeeeeeze in a couple!)...

i was going through my stamped images and realized i haven't used my Bellas in a while, so i thought this one MIGHT work for an encouragement card... then i wondered if it was too juvenile or cutesy, and if the girl is looking for something more elegant. well i sent her the pic and she said she LOVED it, so i will be making some similar cards this week! YAY!

this one's for the 2nd 7 Kids College Fund challenge - no more than two designer papers (i only used 1)

right. hope to grab some things for my big project tomorrow, then our big show, and i'll be back soon with more fun stuff, if all goes smoothly!

musical monday...

trying to get some serious crafting done today - it's going to be a VERY busy week, so i hope to actually get AHEAD for a change!

this one, hopefully one of the commissioned batch, is for the challenge at Crazy 4 Challenges - they want you to incorporate MUSIC into your projects... i got a TON of awesome vintagey sheet music from LAUREN a while back when i visited her, and i think it's time to put a dent in that stack!

the closeup:

tried a new technique - had never played with PearlEx before, and hubbin brought a whole yummy selection of colours home for me a couple of weeks ago, so i thought i might as well jump in. and i honestly don't feel very comfortable doing anything remotely vintage, but i'm working on a project for a special, um, assignment, and it's a vintage theme, so i figure i should probably practice! the layering is a big challenge for me!

i hope to be back later with some good news (i could certainly use it - last night i found a new lump on my Miss O's chest, and since the last one was malignant and needed to be removed, i don't imagine they'll be telling me this one's benign)...

new Dollies colors for ya!

okay, another Monday is here! time for our next Design Dollies colour challenge! you HAVE to go check out the challenge HERE, because we have an amazing sponsor, and you're going to LOVE the prize! play along with my colour challenges all month for your chance to win it!

the challenge?
ROYAL BLUE, TEAL/AQUA and ORANGE:

our Dolls totally rocked this, just so ya know. :) and i'm quite confident that you can rock it, too....

i have been working on commissioned projects for next week, so i thought i'd make another inspirational card...

(entering this one for Summertime Blues at Simon Says Stamp!)

then i liked the colours so much that i thought i'd make another!

the second card is for the Ribbon and Sparkles challenge at The Pink Elephant
Glitz and Glitter at The Crafty Pad

come and join us at the Dollhouse!

feelin' ODD?

we have a brand new challenge for you at Some Odd Girl! it went up yesterday, but i was away all day for my second interview (OOOHHH!) and then taking The Son to get his permit - he turned 17 on tuesday, and i think i'm about ready to crawl into the closet and HIDE! 17! eep!

well there's always a lot going on in this household... hubbin and i have a show tomorrow at an outdoor festival thingy, and apparently they're having a TV crew there, so it should be interesting (and positively nerve-wracking!). and our BIG show is next thursday night - really excited about that, except that i'm terribly anxious about all the new material as hubbin has this tendency to pick songs i don't know, and i can't grab the cd out of his collection to give it a listen as he's got a nasty case of OCD. yeah, that's not fun to live with on a day-to-day basis! anywho, i'm sure it will go splendidly, but there's LOTS going on, and i'm excited and nervous and i have a TON of crafting to do, but no time to do it!

so let's get to the challenge, shall we? this time i'm asking for RIBBONS AND RUBONS! you can win two free digis of your choice from SomeOddGirl.com, and lemme tell ya, my Holmes keeps releasing all these AMAZING images, it's going to be VERY difficult to choose just two!

so... Ribbons and Rubons it it! here's my card, using the brand new "Tweetie" from tuesday's big release:

this Kaylee image is one of my absolute faves to date(and i envy this gal's wardrobe, lemme tell ya!)! the white faux-stitch is Heidi Grace rubon, and the black swirlies in the striped panel and on the frame is Basic Grey rubon, and i'm shocked to say that i absolutely LOVED working with these! i'm trying so hard to use up old stash, and i thought this challenge was a good way to force me to step out of my comfort zone. i am NOT a rubon person, but i think we're rekindling our friendship. :) the stripey paper is Sass, and the frame is K & Company paper... the white lacy trim was sent to me by the very lovely CINDYPANTS, and those cute little floral "buttons" are from my dearest KELLIEBEAN! thank you, ladies! i heart you both!

okay, so CLICK HERE to play along with this Ribbons and Rubons challenge, and to see what our Odd Girls have done with this combination. we have a whole new team in place, including one BRAND NEW ODD GIRL, so do drop by and welcome them (and be inspired by their gorgeous creations!)...

this card plays along with:
Creative Card Crew's "Cute and Girlie" challenge
Cupcake Challenges - they want LACE!
Papertake Weekly's "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue"
(the old is the K & Co. paper - i think it may have been the very first designer stack i bought! - the new is the "Tweetie" image, the borrowed is the Prismacolor pencils, as it was before i bought my own set, and the blue is the bird!)

so there that is....
did you know that tomorrow is DIGI DAY at SNR? Some Odd Girl has lots of awesome stuff goin' down, and you won't want to miss it! i'm one of several Odd Girls hosting challenges, there are games, and tons of ways to win free digis from SomeOddGirl.com! join us!

yeah, you are curious, arncha? well go CHECK OUT THE POST and wish her a happy birthblog! you might just win something funky - 'cuz WHOA, when you look up funky in the dictionary, you'll find her pic right there! tell her Leah said hi.

challenges and commissioned projects!

okay, puttin' the pedal to the metal this week, trying to gear up for a party thingy a girl invited me to attend on the 25th (she asked for wedding cards, thank you cards for hostesses and encouragement cards for her team members), and when i attended the craft fair in may, she cleaned me out of my encouragement cards... anything that said "you can do it" or "believe in your dreams" or messages to that effect. i'm going to be prepared, dagnabbit! i wanna make some money! :D

so this first card is for:
the very FIRST challenge at 7 Kids College Fund - pink with dots (great prize up for grabs, folks!)
and the Simon Says Challenge - inspired by a song ("Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was the choice here) :)

(kinda went simple, as she is a rep for a jewellery line, so i figured elegant and simply stated was the way to go here)

this next one's for:
BasicGrey Challenges - PEARLS! (the branch flourish stamp is from the Indian Summer line and i threw some Opalines on there)
Tuesday Taggers - lots of BLACK!

and this one - the second of the wedding cards, for
Twisted Sketches challenge (the twist is STRIPES - i made my butterflies' wings stripey!)

i knew exactly how i wanted to do this one when i saw the sketch, and i am SO pleased to have used up the last of that glitter paper!

there's another card but i can't show it yet. hoping i'll get a second wind and get some more craftin' done tonight, 'cuz i feel like i'm on a roll! :)

SECOND INTERVIEW!

i got the call! thursday morning, baby. AWWWWWW, YEEAAAAHHH!
SO EXCITED!

NEW colours to challenge you in the Dollhouse!

it's MONDAY! that means a new Design Dollies challenge is up, with some YUMMALICIOUS samples from our amazing Dolls to wow and awe and inspired you!

so you'll want to CLICK HERE for this color challenge and GO FOR IT! :) good luck!

i'll probably be back soon with another post, as i'm working on some COMMISSIONED cards (yes, really! WOOT!) and have played along with some challenges... happy monday, folks!

Saturday, August 7, 2010

1000 sheets? that's INSANITY!

you wanna win 1000 6x6 sheets of gorgeous, yummy, drool-worthy paper?
i know you do, 'cuz we're ALL paper-hoarders, and one can simply never have too much of that pulpy goodness.

click the pic to check it out. and while you're there, peek around her other posts, because holy heck, this gal's got seriously craftin' skillz and stampy abilitah!

there are other prizes up for grabs, but you have to enter by September 3rd for your chance to win! tell Amy that she's awesome, and that Leah sent ya! :D

lookin' for more followers!

first of all, the nifty gals over at My Partner in Crafting Crime are giving MORE candy away when they reach 200 followers, so if you haven't already clicked that button, whatcha waitin' for? Jenny and Robin ROCK. they've created a new challenge blog, and they're wicked cool people, with lotsa talent and sweetness to boot! :) currently sitting at 146, so we're 54 away from the magic numbah!

also, Laurel has alluded to there being some kinda candy, too, and it was noted that she had 398 followers... you really should be following her blog anyway, because she's brilliant. this girl gets published all the time and she's always showing up in the top picks around the blogosphere, so if you are EVER in need of some inspiration, there's PLENTY to be had there! follow her!

i'm tired. i have lots of craftin' to TRY to get done this weekend, and i'm putting forth a great effort to Get Ahead, because i was doing well for a while and have suddenly slipped backwards again. how is summer affecting your craftin' time, chickens?

OH! and have you VOTED yet? (please please please give the photo a 10! this will help me get noticed by the judges, and maybe they'll pick it as a fave!)

Friday, August 6, 2010

okay, so how's about you vote for MY piccie now? :)

i couldn't resist. hubbin created the first account and submitted Miss O's picture for the Jones Soda labels, so i went digging through some of my old faves and found this one:

think i might be able to convince you to vote AGAIN, this time a 10 for lil' ol' me? :)

CLICK HERE to see what it will look like as a label, and to cast your vote!

the Miss Ophelia picture has been voted a staff pick, which is SUPER exciting! this means that the photo will be sent to the judges for a determination, and if they like it, then she'll be on a label! :) thank you SO MUCH to those who have voted! if you haven't voted, but WANT TO, for my lovely kitty-cat (who's such a sweet little thing and would love to be famous!), please do!

i do think this could become a new hobby/obsession. :D

OH, and i got my Prismacolors today, and the interview went well. hoping i'll get a call by the end of next week for a second interview, otherwise the hunt goes on...

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

IT'S MY KITTY! VOTE FOR MISS O!

okay, how awesome would it be if this picture of my gorgeous kitty-cat, Miss Ophelia, appeared on the Jones soda bottles or cans? yeah, that would be sweet! vote for her?

if you follow the link, it will show you what she'd look like on the label, and PLEASE vote her a 10, 'cuz it will be good for her ego (which is very fragile, as she's a senior old miss)! :D thanks, chickens! LUFF!

oh, and tomorrow's my interview. nervous, but totally stoked!

still kickin' it, ODDly enough! check out the Odd Girls!

indeed, i am still Odd, and i don't see that changing anytime soon.

BUT! today, we introduce to you.....

the brand new team of ODD GIRLS!

tough selection process, i assure you, but i think this is going to be a fabby, fun team, and i can't wait to get to know our new Odd Girls better! check out the gang HERE, and say hi to everyone! you may recognize a couple of familiar faces... Kristy likes to call us "Seasoned" Odd Girls, rather than "Old"... i can live with that. :D

it's a big time for Some Odd Girl! new team, NEW FREEBIE, and i have a little sneakie to share with you! :) this is an image you might not see for a while in the store, but he's part of the new "Tinies" line... meet Tobie!

and my very first pop-up card ever! i had fun figuring out the makin's of this one, and was totally happy with the way he turned out! (had to throw in some yummy Sass, 'cuz it just looked like it was MADE for this card!)

entering this card in the challenges at:
CPS - Sketch

PaperPlay Challenges - Anything Goes! (i went outside of my comfy zone for the pop-up card just to make it more interesting for me!)

now, go head over to the Some Odd Girl challenge blog and see the team's DEBUT projects, and learn about them! we've got a fabulous bunch!

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

i want them i want them i want them!

omg, have you seen the new Sass? TOTALLY hot, and absolutely DROOL-WORTHY!

i can't say enough great things about the new lines... and holy WOWZA, these guys are doin' it up right and introducing TONS of new, funky products.

check it out:

those are "turkish turquoise" entwined blossoms. are they not GORGEOUS? i love the detail in all of them, and this is my favie colour of the bunch...

then there's THIS:

the border strips from the new "count me in" line - i have a tendency to chop my little borders off my Sass papers because they are too fabby to toss... these have ALL the stuff i love! ledgery paper, lotsa yellow, pointy strips, dotty stuff, banners, and oodles and oodles of HAPPY!

and last but not least, this beauty:

you wouldn't know by looking that it's a FLAT piece of paper, woodja?! seriously - loads of dimension, without even being raised! too gorgeous for words... that's "alterations" from the new mix and mend line. there are so many beautiful things crammed into one little line!

that's Sass, doin' it the way they know we like it.

whatcha think?

ANOTHER Design Dollies sponsor! ooohh, and V'ness has candy!

today, we bring you the first Elements Challenge of the month at Design Dollies... and HOOOOOO, lawdy, ya gotta see the prize up for grabs! YUMMEH! i may just play along and see if i can win it for myself! ;)

WOOT! eBay happiness!

i just bought a brand new complete set of 132 Prismacolor Pencils on eBay for $69.99.

Smeg (my BFF) is taking his set home with him when he leaves tomorrow morning, and i was trying to hide my desperation, as i honestly didn't know what i'd do without them. he loaned me his set of 72 pencils at Easter and i've rather fallen in love (in case you couldn't tell).

LIFE IS GOOD!

oh, and in the news... my job info-session went well on Friday; i should hear in the next couple of days whether or not any of the places i had asked to be placed have spots open and if i'll be interviewed. if not, they'll contact me for an interview when something opens up. BUT the one for the other FABBY place is Thursday morning, and i'm REALLY hoping this one goes well! they'll be interviewing AND testing, which i'm VERY excited about - need to do some basic proofreading and typing and math stuff and i'm quite confident i'll do well with those. send me some good vibes, folks! and many, many thanks to those who have done just that! :D

tonight is the home stretch for the Color Challenge at Design Dollies - last chance at a yummy prize pack for the month! i'll be back tomorrow with a brand new one, and a brand new prize! hurry and get in on the action (for this challenge, or for this week's TRIFECTA!) before midnight tonight! :D

i'm feelin' FAB! i'm feelin' FUNKY! (and a little ODD, too!)

so i decided to play along with the Buttons and Bows challenge over at Fab 'n Funky! :)

since Some Odd Girl is sponsoring this challenge, i thought it appropriate to use one of the Some Odd Girl images!

here's m'card:

i used "Picnic Mae", and this was my first attempt doing RED hair - definitely needs some work, but i think i know what i'll be doing differently next time!

anywho, a happy little card, for a fab and funky little challenge!

GO PLAY ALONG - check out what the Fab 'n Funky team have done with their Some Odd Girl images, and if you wanna make something with buttons and bows, you could win a $10 credit to SomeOddGirl.com! (and you get to rack up those loyalty points - awwww, yeeeaahh~!)

entering this card into the "Hot and Spicy" challenge over at C.R.A.F.T. as well - LOVE these warm hues in the Basic Grey "Offbeat" collection!
